What to Expect
Surgery can feel daunting. Knowing what happens at each step — and why — makes the whole experience calmer and easier. Here is how your care typically unfolds with Dr. Jay Pitroda.
1. Consultation & assessment
Your first visit is an unhurried conversation. Dr. Pitroda listens to your symptoms, examines you, reviews any reports you bring, and explains what he thinks is going on in plain language. If surgery is one of the options, he'll tell you honestly whether it's needed now, can wait, or can be avoided.
2. Investigations & diagnosis
You may be advised a few tests — blood work, an ultrasound, an endoscopy or a CT scan — to confirm the diagnosis and plan safely. These help decide the best approach for your condition rather than a one-size-fits-all plan.
3. Understanding your options
- What the procedure involves and why it's recommended.
- Whether a minimally invasive (keyhole) approach is possible.
- The likely recovery time and any risks.
- Costs, insurance and day-care vs. admission.
You'll have time to ask questions and involve your family before deciding anything.
4. Preparing for surgery
Once you decide to go ahead, you'll receive clear pre-operative instructions — fasting time, which medicines to pause or continue, and what to bring. A pre-anaesthetic check makes sure you're fit for the procedure.
5. The day of surgery
Most keyhole procedures are done through a few small incisions under anaesthesia in a modern, sterile operating theatre. Many patients are able to go home the same or next day.
6. Recovery & follow-up
You'll be given diet advice, pain-relief guidance, wound-care instructions and a follow-up plan. You can reach the clinic if you have any concerns during recovery — you're not on your own once you leave.
This is a general guide; your exact plan will be tailored to you during consultation.
